Working In The Rain – Safety Message

Working In The Rain – Safety Message

WEATHER CHANGING CAMPAIGN

Dear Professionals

This week we are supposed to get about 2 1/2 inches of rain in the next couple of days. If you’ve ever had to work in the rain then you know how difficult and unpleasant that can be. Here are some important work practices that will help prevent accidents and injuries when working in the rain.

  • Move cautiously – When surfaces are slippery it is important to work more slowly and deliberately to prevent slipping and falling.
  • Use the correct equipment – Never use electrical tools and equipment that are not intended for outdoor use in the rain. Select hand tools with textured, nonslip grip handles.
  • Wear appropriate rain gear – Rain gear which includes both a coat and pants, is ventilated and is highly visible should be worn any time you’re working in the rain. High visibility rain gear, like the ANSI Class 3 Rain Jacket features lightweight, breathable fabric and will keep you visible, dry and warm. Also, wear rain gear that is the proper size as to not interfere with your movement.
  • Wear proper footwear – Proper shoes should include deep treads to prevent slitting.
  • Ensure that you can see – If wearing eyeglasses use anti-fogging sprays or wipes on them. Also, your hard hat will help keep the rain out of your eyes.
  • When adverse weather (such as high winds, rain, snow, or sleet) creates a hazardous condition, operations shall be suspended until the hazardous condition no longer exists. Always consult with your Supervisor or Safety Professional.Remember, Always wear your PPE, it is the last line of DEFENSE.
  • Thank you all for working SAFE
