Skill Assessment, Training and Quality

The best way to provide quality skilled craft professionals is to assess and train. PLS is committed to developing a workforce of the highest standard in safety, skill assessment and training. Through NCCER Assessment testing,  ABC Apprenticeship and craft training programs we continue to produce the industries leaders in construction. In 2012, PLS, USA Cares & The Associated Builders and Contractors Illinois Chapter received National Recognition through various media outlets including USA Today for our Veterans Training Program. PLS selected 7 veterans for a pilot program to train our military men and women in an 8 week boot camp to prepare them for work in the electrical field and successfully graduated and placed all 7 veterans with reputable heavy industrial electrical contractors in Illinois and Indiana. We continually enroll numerous students each year in the ABC apprenticeship training program throughout the Midwest to address the growing shortage of craft professionals and serve our industry to meet its needs.

Assessment:

Our partnership with the Associated Builders and Contractors provides us the ability to assess skill set deficiencies to improve and develop productive craft professionals. The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) offers entry level and journeymen level written assessments. These assessments evaluate the knowledge of a particular craft professionals trade to provide a guideline for upgraded training and certification. PLS utilizes NCCER assessment testing to match the right craft professional to the right project.

Training:

The first step of training at PLS relates to Safety. It is our priority value to train and retain our professionals by proactively preventing workplace accidents. All members of our team are required to complete 18 hours of safety training, at no cost to the professional, before they step foot on a project. At PLS, we believe a safe professional is a more productive professional that further improves overall project performance.

Furthermore, we offer our professionals tuition assistance and the opportunity to develop their trade skills through the Associated Builders and Contractors Apprenticeship and Craft Training programs. These programs meet all federal and state requirements for formal apprenticeship training and prevailing wage work including employee-sponsored classroom instruction and on-the-job training. Upon successful completion, our craft professionals are recognized for their achievements and awarded their apprenticeship certificate. Through these programs we have the opportunity to address our industries nationwide craft shortage and provide career opportunities in the construction trades.
